Welcome to the ghostWorld. Brighton, UK-based christopher rye is
a songwriter, stage performer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer, whose beautiful, unusual songs, big beats and dramatic productions are gaining attention across the internet, attracting airplay and interest from movie makers. (christopher will release 'Cinema', a collection of instrumental mixes of a dozen songs in 2009 to capitalise on interest from advertisers and moviemakers).
This is life-affirming music for nightwalkers, ghostwriters, original thinkers, romantic misfits, travellers, clubbers and outsiders (by choice and inclination).
In the tradition of songwriters such as Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, and David Bowie, and touching on the dark, romantic soundscapes of bands such as the Blue Nile and Massive Attack, christopher is also prime mover of the kinetic music genre, fusing cinematic sounds, soaring melodies, epic arrangements and 80s-influenced electronica, through all of which christopher spins kinetic riffs.
A polymath and an intuitive musician, he writes, plays and sings most of the songs including everything on the new album himself, but he has also collaborated on some tracks with singers Emily Swift Jones, Martha Evatt, Jill Draper (Basement Jaxx) and dance diva Lisa Abbott.
His songs flip between the blissed-out, starlit, and melancholy (Ghostwriter, The Prince of Serendip) and the pounding, moonlit, and pulsing (Et tu Babe, Here Come the Monsters, Shadow Man, Ghost), via highly original kinetic dance tunes (Telethon!, Hey Tinker Bell) and songs that create a world of their own (September Loves You).
From time to time his work throws up classic pop songs (Smalltown Nightmares, Rainy Night Sunday) and trashy guitar anthems (check out The Sky Patrol on his new album). Occasionally, the sun does come out in the ghostWorld (Summer Days Out with your Friends).
A talented, classically trained guitarist, christopher has a separate
set of acoustic material (not featured here yet), some of which he will finally release on a dedicated EP in 2009. He will be playing acoustic sets at open mic nights in and around Brighton in the run up to Christmas to get back into the swing of live performance for 2009.
christopher rye's Rainy Night Sunday has been featured on the
'BBC Introducing' show with Tom Robinson on BBC6music (digital channel). In an email Tom described the song as "fucking gorgeous" and on air he said "ten out of ten", comparing it to the Blue Nile.
Find out why the UK's christopher rye is making waves across a whole range of music sites, especially in the US, and why he has garnered dozens of awards on garageband.com, including several TRACK OF THE WEEK and TRACK OF THE DAY picks.
In January 2008, The Shadow Man topped the Electronic chart at amiestreet.com for one whole month, while the rest of the top 10 in the Electronic chart were all ryeTunes.

Cometh the hour, cometh The Shadow Man. Remember: your own shadow will never hurt you. But what if it's someone else's?
"The darkest part of the sky is the bluest." (christopher rye).
"Those stolen nights of wonder fall like dust behind us now." (christopher rye)
